The Lord's harvest

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
Matthew 10v 35-38

Sometimes I feel like I'm trying to convince God that saving my family and friends would be a good idea. Instead this passage tells me that Jesus has deep compassion for those who don't know him as their shepherd; and that he sees a plentiful harvest and desires to send workers out.

In other words, it really isn't my idea; it's most definitely his! In fact, by nature of living in the family and with the friends that I do, I'm one of those workers! And I can pray in confidence because I'm on his mission, not mine.
